International property searches 'on the rise'
News Article Date: Tuesday 27th of October 2009
The number of people searching for homes abroad was ten per cent higher in September than in August, it has been revealed.
According the Primelocation International Search Index, figures were up by 32 per cent compared to the same period in 2008.
The most popular destinations included France, Spain, Italy, the US and Portugal.
Ann Wright, international development manager of Primelocation, said the rise in search activity is a positive sign for the foreign property market.
"However, as is to be expected given the recent turbulence we have experienced, a certain amount of caution remains and interest is currently concentrated in the traditionally strong and established markets," she added.
Speaking earlier this week, Rhiannon Davies, director of Shelter Offshore, said France is a popular destination with Brits due to its proximity to the UK and the wide range of property available there - with everything from rural farmhouses to modern apartments on offer.
